In an earlier urban design study for Campbell River, DA identified the
need and opportunity for a public square in the downtown area. Since
construction this square has become the major public gathering space in
Campbell River. Located along Shoppers Row, the square defines and
strengthens the existing cultural precinct and provide opportunities for
art displays, public performances, small gatherings and major festivals.

The design recalls the historic shoreline that once bisected
the site. Abstracted natural elements representing the beach
and intertidal zone are incorporated into the paving, seating
and planting design. The red vertical steel markers also allude
to the marine environment, while spatially defining the square
and accommodating banners, lighting and signage.
